During winter, one may wonder what all care/precautions to be taken? It is a common concern to take precautions in winter. Listed below is a quick reference checklist, which one may want to do by way of preparedness. Please read on.

1> To keep warm winter clothes handy:

To keep warm and comfortable winter clothes handy, well laundered and ironed if necessary. It is more important for children and aged people to keep warm.

2> To consume warm food and drinks:

This choice can gradually build up the warmth, first in your body. As far as possible, the canned food should be avoided during this season. Consume winter vegetables and opt for liquids.

3> To remain active:

By remaining active, one, the mind is trained to ignore the cold discomfort around and two it generates heat within the organs and muscles internally. In the process, one might complete some less prioritised, neglected tasks in the household.

4> To avoid intoxicating drinks to keep warm:

In the intoxicating/alcoholic drinks, we might get a temporary feeling of instant warmth, as long as we are inside the four walls, but the moment one steps out this effect is lost.

5> To verify what external support/aid you can get:

Some regions/local governments do provide specific winter relief by way of fuel, seasonal allowances. It might be a good idea to see if one is eligible for any of those.

6> To maintain a central household heater on:

Many homes have this facility provided within the house. It can maintain a uniform temperature all over the house. The possible disadvantages could be, huge energy consumption bills, maintenance of equipment, possible failures at the wrong time, availability or non-availability of a maintenance person, when required.

7> To try and keep the old fashioned fireplace burning:

This is an ancient practice in the older stone or wooden houses they used to have a built-in fireplace, within the house. My modern houses in the hilly areas still have a fireplace installed.

8> To keep a steady supply of warm/hot water all the time:

A new choice has opened to the world with advanced technology, who can afford it—something like solar heaters, 24x7 geysers.

Again, the disadvantages can be listed as high equipment, maintenance issues, timely availability of desired options, geographical limitations, and utility supply.

9> To keeping breezy/draft areas covered or locked:

This is a universally followed practised. From childhood, everybody is taught how to keep windows, doors secured, locked when it is windy. It does NOT need much of an explanation.

10> To ensure insulations and turn down the cooling dials:

Many a times, most of the houses turn on or increase the dials of house cooling equipment in the other non-winter seasons, which is inadvertently forgotten. This NOT only wastes the energy and increases the utility bills but also crosses the thresholds of acceptable room/house temperature.

With all these 10 winter house warmth measures, one can reduce the different warmness escaping out, and keeping your house warm this winter.
