What is Land Registration?

In simple terms, land registration is done to get legal ownership of land. You may purchase a piece of land for a certain amount from the existing owner. However, to make the transaction legal and get the ownership of the land in your name, you need to get it registered.

The land registration process in India is done at the sub-registrar's office. The charges for land registration differ from one state to another as per the required formalities. You need to pay the stamp duty at the office and get other formalities done to complete the land registration process. Both online and offline modes for land registration are now available. However, for some formalities, you need to physically visit the office of the sub-registrar.
