Festive Time: But is Your Home Insured against Theft and Fire Hazards ?

Diwali is here and finally the Mishra family took their long awaited vacation and went to Bhopal to celebrate the festival with their extended family. Meeting their loved ones and celebrating Diwali with them is something they wait for the entire year. Everybody was busy celebrating the festival when a phone call from their neighbors devastated everyone.

A firecracker had fallen into the backyard of the Mishra house which ignited few dry leaves and slowly the fire spread to their entire house. Neighbours called the firefighters but by the time the fire was put out, their entire house and all their belongings were reduced to ashes.

The Mishras had renovated their entire house before Diwali and had even taken loan from the bank to do that. Now they have no place to live and no money to build a new house and buy other things that were destroyed in the fire.

It was a tragedy and the Mishras were unfortunate that they had to bear all this. There is nothing they could have done to help themselves.Right?

Wrong!

Things would have been totally different if they had insured their house.

We all believe that tragedies will always happen with others until one day we wake up to realize that we are that person. And by then, it is too late.

To put it in numbers, last year during Diwali eve, more than 273 calls were made to report fires in Delhi itself. These were the reported numbers and major accidents. Now, think about all the small mishaps and fire related injuries that happen on Diwali due to burning of fire-crackers.  In addition to threat to human life, property worth crores gets destroyed during Diwali.

Therefore, it is always better to take precautions and secure your home against natural and man-made calamities by purchasing a home insurance policy. A home shield insurance policy covers your property not only from fire but also from disasters such as lightning, storm, flood, earthquakes, typhoons, as well as against antisocial activities like riots, thefts, burglary, mechanical and electrical breakdown, etc.

If Mr.Mishra would have invested in buying an insurance policy, such as HDFC ERGO Home Shield Insurance, things would have been much different. The building insurance policy provides for rebuilding the house as well as takes care of your living expenses until your home is ready.

While the basic home insurance pays for the home building, you can also get the contents of your home secured by investing a little additional money. There are many different home insurance policies offered by HDFC ERGO and you can select one as per your convenience.

Remember, taking precautions is always better than believing you are safe. This Diwali, gift yourself a home insurance policy and safeguard your home against unwarned financial burden.
