Tips to Ensure You Don’t Face Any Glitch While Filing Claim

There are many dos and don’ts while submitting a health insurance claim. It is better to know the procedure clearly before filing the claim so that you do not face any glitches later. To get a reimbursement of all the expenses you have paid out-of-pocket, it is important to file your claim properly. Also remember just handing over the insurance ID card will not guarantee direct billing. Here are some tips to help you file your claim efficiently:

1. Collect your itemized receipts: This is the first step to filing your claim in the right manner. Ask your doctor or medical provider for all the itemized bills. These bills should list every service rendered by the medical facility along with the cost.

2. Fill the claim form: A claim form describes in detail the accident or illness in question so that the insurance company is able to determine your case better. The insurer will be able to evaluate the expenses incurred and confirm whether the expenses are covered under your insurance plan or not.

3. Review the form: After you have filed your documents neatly, review them and then send the documents across to the insurance company. You will get a call from them once they have reviewed your documents and finalized the claim amount or if there is any discrepancy.

4. Send your claim by email or fax: This process will be quicker than sending the documents by post. This will also enable you to keep the originals to yourself.

5. Read instructions carefully: Each form will have some instructions on how and where to send it, but if you have any questions, it is better to call and check with the insurance provider to avoid any glitches later.

6. Make at least one copy of all the documents:This works as a preventive measure, in case a document goes missing. Also, keep an extra copy of the claim form along with all the itemized receipts.

7. Double check for documents: After you have sent the documents mentioned, call up the office and ask them if any additional documents are required. Also check for a time frame for the payment.

8. Communicate right: Whenever you speak to someone in the insurance office, it is always better to jot down the date, time, name and designation of the person you speak with as you might need these details in case any complications arise.

9. Follow-up right: Follow-up with the insurance company after you have submitted your claim, to avoid any unnecessary time lapse and make sure things are in place.

10. Be ready for additional paperwork: Your insurance company may also ask you to submit some additional documents such as your medical history and other such records. It is always better to have them handy.Read more about Do's & Dont's related to Health Insurance Claims
