In the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic, the world has experienced a lockdown like never before. While the pandemic still continues to spread, offices have slowly started to resume with a whole new set of COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions. If your office has also slowly begun to resume activities, there are certain precautions you must take before you start travelling to your workplace again.

Remember to distance yourself socially.

While the lockdown may be close to over, social distancing is not! No matter how clean your work environment is or how safely you commute until there, social distancing is a must. It’s one of the few practices in this tough time that has actually proven effective. Most of the offices have already ensured that the workplace and furniture arranged accordingly. However, to be on the safer side, it is vital to remember the six-feet-away rule.

Be wary in public

Your chances of getting infected automatically increase when you step out of the house and come in contact with people outside your family. Public places like airports, bus stands, train stations, etc., are places where people can be exposed to COVID-19 the most. It isn’t easy to even socially distance yourself in public places like these, but that is the need of the hour.

Avoid physical contact at all costs.

When we are in the office space, it is extremely vital not to forget COVID-19 workplace guidelines. Greeting colleagues with hugs or handshakes is a big no-no. Further, avoid touching surfaces in your workplace, and keep your distance from other colleagues’ belongings. Even meetings and discussions in the office won’t be the same anymore because maintaining distance is on top of everyone’s priority list. Agreed that everyone is excited to go back to the office, but it is in our best interest to stay alert and safe at all times.

Here are some sound rules that one must follow in public, at their workplace, or generally anywhere in public-

- Wear a mask every time you step out of the house, for whatever reason

- Maintain social distance, especially in public places

- Pay extra attention when you are in an unknown or public place

- Remind yourself to wash continually, clean, and sanitize yourself

- Make contactless payment wherever possible

Remember, it is our presence of mind that will come in handy during this pandemic. Moreover, it is advisable to have a health insurance policy covering hospitalization and medication costs if you are diagnosed with COVID. An ideal health insurance policy will not only offer you protection but also ensure that you are financially secure in these challenging times.

What measures can you take if you do come in contact with a COVID-19 patient?

The higher the number of cases in your city or area, the more likely you will get infected when you step out of your house. Here is what you can do if you feel like you have come in contact with someone during your travel-

  1. Watch out for symptoms: Commonly known symptoms for coronavirus are fever, shortness of breath, cough, etc. It is crucial you routinely monitor yourself for them. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) has also recently expanded this list to include other symptoms like mucous formation in the throat, sore throat, muscle pain, loss of taste and smell, diarrhea, to name a few.
  2. Get tested: If you find yourself feeling any of the symptoms mentioned above, you must instantly consult a doctor. There are a few tests advised by the MoHFW, which can detect if you are a COVID patient or not, but it is best not to make the decision yourself. Consult a doctor and mention your symptoms, if any, and based on their recommendation, get yourself tested so that you can start treatment as soon as possible.
  3. Consider self-quarantine: If your COVID-19 test is positive, then you must consult a doctor and self-quarantine at the earliest. Only an assigned member of the house must tend to you, and you should also stay away from sharing clothing, utensils, or any other intimate items. Generally, even if you haven’t tested yourself, but don’t feel okay, it would still be on the safer side to consider home quarantine.

Conclusion

If you have started making the commute to your workplace, it would also be wise to buy health insurance policy online. Choose your health cover after due diligence because COVID-19 expenses can be quite hefty. An ideal health insurance policy should cover hospitalization charges, medical bills and offer in-home corona treatment if the doctor advises.
