Health Insurance with Pregnancy Cover
Health Insurance with Pregnancy Cover
The cost of surgical or medical procedures is constantly on the rise in India. In fact, it is getting to a stage where a major medical procedure can easily wipe out most of your savings without you even realizing. What should you do in such a situation?
Avoiding a visit to your doctor or hospital is definitely not a viable solution. Buying a health insurance plan is. A health insurance plan provides financial assistance in the case of medical or surgical cases. By paying a pre-defined premium you get into an agreement with an insurer. And in return, the insurer will pay for medical expenses on your behalf.
Various Covers
A standard health insurance plan offers different types of coverage. Here are some of them.
Pre and Post hospitalization Cover
If a person were to undergo a surgery or any other medical procedure, it might require some medical attention before and after the procedure. Insurers usually cover these as a part of pre-hospitalization and post-hospitalization cover.
Day Care
With modernization of procedures, there are quite a few that do not even require the patient to be submitted for more than 24 hours. A health insurance plan would cover such procedures as well.
Maternity Cover
A standard health insurance plan usually offers coverage for maternity as well. This takes care of the expenses related to the maternity of the policyholder.
In Patient
This is without any doubt, one of the most basic features on offer. The expenses related to a patient, if they are admitted for more than 24 hours, is taken care of by the health insurance plan.
Pregnancy Cover
As mentioned above, health insurance plans usually offer maternity cover. This feature covers the cost of delivery and expenses related to the newborn baby. And considering the fact that maternity treatments can cost anywhere between INR 50,000 to INR 5,00,000, it is a good idea to ensure that your health insurance plan has this cover.
In the event that your insurer does not provide such a cover, you can request for an add-on. Insurers provide a wide range of policies or add-ons when it comes to pregnancy. A maternity add-on or health insurance plan with maternity cover provides the following benefits.
Cover for Newborn
This cover would take care of any immediate medical attention that your newborn needs.
Delivery Expenses
Whether it is a normal or caesarian delivery, there are some hospital related expenses that must be taken care of. The pregnancy cover takes care of it.
Pre and Post hospitalization
As is the case with a standard health insurance plan, this feature pays for some of the pre and post hospitalization related expenses.
Exclusions
Though a pregnancy cover provides a lot of good features and facilities, it doesn’t cover everything.
Regular check-ups with your doctor are not covered.
Doctor consultation or diagnostic tests during pregnancy might not be covered.
Unless exclusively part of the treatment, the costs of vitamin supplements or tonics are not covered.
