Medical treatment can be expensive, and many people avoid or delay going to the hospital because they can’t afford it. This often makes their health worse and increases financial stress. To address this issue, the Dr YSR Aarogyasri Health Scheme was introduced for underprivileged families in 2007. It aims to provide free treatment for serious illnesses, surgeries, and hospital care. Families who are eligible receive a YSR Aarogyasri Card, which allows them to get cashless treatment at approved hospitals.
The benefits of the Dr Aarogyasri Health Scheme are as follows:
If hospitalisation is required, the scheme provides comprehensive coverage for in-patient treatments in government and network hospitals. Beneficiaries can receive treatment for a wide range of illnesses and medical conditions without worrying about the financial burden.
In addition to hospital care, the scheme covers outpatient treatments. These include services like consultations, diagnostic tests, and minor treatments provided at network hospitals and health camps. These services are offered as a part of the cashless facility, so beneficiaries to access healthcare without making upfront payments.
This is one of the key features and benefits of the scheme. Once registered, the eligible family members can avail of cashless treatment of up to INR 5 lakhs per family per year. The coverage includes all hospitalisation and treatment costs at network hospitals.
The scheme also covers treatment for pre-existing conditions or the health issues the covered members are suffering from before enrolling in the scheme. This helps individuals with chronic conditions or ongoing diseases access timely medical care without worrying about the bills.
The scheme also covers follow-up treatments and post-hospitalisation expenses, which could otherwise create financial woes. This ensures the beneficiaries receive comprehensive care during recovery as well.
The YSR Aarogyasri Health Scheme offers affordable family health insurance, providing coverage for the entire family, including parents, under one policy. Therefore, the eligible family members can access the benefits of the scheme without purchasing separate policies. The scheme reduces healthcare costs for low-income families, making quality healthcare more accessible.
The YSR Aarogyasri Health Scheme covers a wide range of general surgeries, allowing eligible families to undergo any of the included procedures without the financial burden of medical expenses. The following surgeries and treatments are covered under the scheme:
• ENT Surgery
• Ophthalmology

Outpatient care, including check-ups and minor treatments, is available on a cash-free basis at health camps and network hospitals.
If additional procedures are required after hospital discharge, the scheme also covers those expenses. Follow-up treatments and recovery-related care are included in the plan.
Even if a covered member has a pre-existing health condition, they can still avail themselves of treatment under the scheme.
It is a family-floater policy, so the total coverage can be used by any family member.
