Road trips are a fun escape from the hustle and bustle of citylife, and an experience that you can make even more enjoyable by stocking up on the right gadgets and accessories. While one may argue that the best road trips are the ones that are unplanned and spontaneous, it always makes sense to have a few tools and gadgets handy,so that they can bail you out in unforeseen circumstances. Let’s take a look at some of the must-have accessories for that ultimate road-trip:

1. Car cover

When on the road, you may not always have a roof to park your car under. Carry a car cover to protect your vehicle against the natural elements such as sunshine, rain, dirt, bird droppings, etc. You wouldn’t want to clean your car every day out on the road, and a car cover can keep some of the dirt off your vehicle.

2. Cleaning cloth

This is a given, road trip or not. But it is particularly useful during a trip, because in an unfamiliar territory, hunting for a cleaning cloth is not ideal. Keep a cleaning cloth handy always to ensure your car is not embarrassingly dirty at the wrong moments. Keep a jumper cable handy, as strangers are more likely to help you with charging your batteries than give you a tow. 7. Tyre tools

Flat tyres are perhaps the most common issues you can face on a road trip. Learn how to change a tyre quickly and carry the necessary tools for it, including a jack and tyre inflator. Carry pressure gauges as well to ensure optimal pressure, fuel efficiency and handling. It will also help extend your tyre’s life, as running on deflated tyres can damage their structural integrity.

Finally, carry your car documents and insurance papers. If you’re past the date of renewal, check for car insurance online to ensure that you are financially protected against accident-related liabilities. Also remember that driving without insurance is prohibited under the Motor Vehicles Act. Ensure your pollution certificate is up to date and that you have your driving license. All these documents are likely to be checked, especially if you are crossing borders.
