All You Need To Know About Maternity Insurance

Anticipating a new life to be born is one of the most blissful as well as challenging phases of life. For a couple, the phase of pregnancy is a journey that they take together. While maternity is in no way a sickness, however, because of the criticality and hospital expenses involved, health insurance with maternity benefits is very important. With increasing awareness among couples, they are aware of maternity insurance but aren’t aware of what to expect, what it offers and how to choose insurance.

We, at HDFC ERGO, ensure that every single step of your pregnancy is taken care of and this divine journey is made comfortable with seamless support, constant help and best possible coverage. Maternity insurance can be bought as an add-on to your health insurance policy which we will discuss later, but first things first.

When to buy maternity insurance?

There is a misconception that maternity insurance can be bought after you get pregnant. In such a case your pregnancy will be considered as a pre-existing condition and won’t be covered. When you buy health insurance with maternity coverage, there is a waiting period of 4 years before which you cannot avail the benefits of maternity insurance. Thus it is advised that the best time to buy health insurance policy with maternity benefits is immediately after your marriage, or maybe even before your marriage in case you are planning to start a family soon after marriage.
