Baby girls commonly suffer from inguinal hernia and umbilical hernia. The former type can be seen in the groin area, while the latter can be seen in the belly button area. Symptoms to Recognise

The common hernia in baby girl symptoms are listed below.

• A lump or swelling under the skin in the groin or belly button area

• Tenderness or pain in the affected part

• Soreness around the hernia

• Baby crying continuously

• Unexplained fussiness

• A bulging area in the skin that seems to increase in size when the baby coughs, cries or strains

• Redness or discoloration of skin around the hernia

• Fever in some cases

• Vomiting in some cases

In rare cases, the hernia may get strangulated, leading to a medical emergency. Parents need to be aware of the signs of strangulated hernia as listed below: 

• A bulge on the skin that keeps increasing in size

• High fever

• Redness around the hernia

• Bloating

• Nausea and vomiting

• Severe abdominal or groin pain

Apart from inguinal and umbilical hernias, babies can also develop other types of hernias, such as femoral hernia (which occurs around the meeting point of the thigh and groin) and epigastric hernia (which occurs between the breastbone and belly button).
