With a spike in a number of JN.1 virus in every nook and corner of the country, the Health Ministry has set up stringent testing guidelines to contain the spread of the new virus. However, the authorities have assured that to fight the emergence of the new JN.1 virus, there would be no need of additional booster shots required. People who are vaccinated for coronavirus, their immune system can fight the attack of the new variant and avert any severity. The health ministry data also reveals that 97% of eligible citizens got the first dose, but only 90% got the second dose. This points out that more than 220 crore vaccines have been administered across the country, but only 22.87 crore of booster doses have been administered among the adult population. India launched its national COVID-19 vaccination programme on January 16, 2021, starting by vaccinating healthcare and front-line workers and senior citizens, subsequently expanding to reach all citizens aged 12 years and above.
