Cybersecurity firm Kaspersky reports a surge in cyberattacks targeting Gen Z, with over 250,000 instances from Q2 2024 to Q1 2025 involving malware disguised as popular anime titles such as Naruto, Demon Slayer, and Attack on Titan. Cybercriminals exploit the deep emotional connection Gen Z has with these series, using tactics like fake “exclusive episodes” or “leaked scenes” to distribute malicious software.
The report also highlights that streaming platforms like Netflix and Disney+ were used in nearly 96,000 attack attempts, with Netflix alone accounting for over 85,000. To combat this trend and educate younger audiences, Kaspersky has introduced “Case 404,” an interactive game designed to teach Gen Z users about cybersecurity threats and safe online practices.
Kaspersky advises users to access content through official channels, be cautious of unsolicited links, and utilize reliable security solutions to protect against such threats.
