The highly anticipated BharatGP has been notably absent from MotoGP's provisional 2026 calendar, raising major concerns about India's participation in the world's top motorcycle racing championship. The race made its start at the Buddh International Circuit in 2023 and went well. It was supposed to happen in 2024, but it kept getting pushed back.
The BharatGP was first pushed back from 2024 to March 2025 because of worries about the weather. It then had more problems when operating issues required another delay. MotoGP's commercial rights holder, Dorna Sports, revealed that the race couldn't get a later date in 2025 because of these ongoing operational problems. Instead, it was moved to 2026.
Even though the calendar is still subject to change and there are ways to possibly add races, it doesn't look like BharatGP will be back. This situation shows the bigger problem that India's motorsport goals face: the country is still waiting for global racing organisations to fully understand and take advantage of its business potential.
The absence underscores questions about when India will develop a consistent presence in international motorsport calendars.
