Yamaha Motor India has officially stated that it will not be entering the highly competitive 100cc and 125cc motorcycle markets. Vice President Ravinder Singh made the announcement at the 3S Grand Prix 2025, emphasising the company's commitment to premium mobility options.
The way the Japanese company operates is quite different from how Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto, and Honda do things. Together, those companies sell over 10 million cheap bikes every year. Instead, Yamaha's "Call of the Blue" campaign, launched in 2018, portrays the company as a maker of fun, sporty, and stylish products for young riders who are serious about performance.
This high-end approach is reflected in Yamaha's current Indian range, which includes hybrid scooters and models like the Aerox 155, MT-15, R15, and FZ-X. The company continues to manufacture 100cc bikes for shipment to Africa and Latin America, but has no plans to introduce these models domestically.
Yamaha aims to expand into the 300cc+ segment, targeting riders who aspire to upgrade from entry-level performance bikes. The company will maintain its focus on creating a desirable brand image rather than prioritising high sales volumes.
