A new WTTC report, Future of the Travel & Tourism Workforce, estimates that the global travel & tourism sector could generate 91 million new jobs by 2035, roughly one in every three net jobs worldwide. However, the study warns of a stark challenge: a projected shortfall of over 43 million workers, leaving labour supply 16 % below demand.
The report highlights that hospitality alone may face an 8.6 million worker deficit, especially in low-skilled roles that resist automation. The biggest shortages are expected in China (16.9 million), India (11 million), and the EU (6.4 million). To bridge this widening gap, WTTC urges coordinated efforts among governments, educators, and industries, focusing on training, retention strategies, digital skills, and policy reforms.
