Tokyo Grinds to a Halt as Snowstorm Causes Travel Chaos

A snowstorm paralyzes Tokyo, creating a travel nightmare as over 100 flights are grounded, train services halt, and travel warnings proliferate. The Japan Meteorological Agency forecasts up to 21 inches of snow, particularly in mountainous areas north of Tokyo. Evacuations were required for two Yurikamome automated trains with 550 passengers stuck between stations. Tokyo's Haneda airport faced cancellations, impacting domestic and international flights. Power outages affected more than 14,000 homes across Tokyo and neighboring prefectures. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism issues advisories, urging drivers to avoid unnecessary trips and equip vehicles with winter tires or tire chains to navigate the challenging conditions.
