Mumbai crowned Asia’s happiest city in 2025

Mumbai has emerged at the top spot as Asia’s happiest city in the 2025 Time Out survey, which gathered feedback from more than 18,000 locals across the region. According to the findings, an outstanding 94 % of respondents feel their city makes them happy. Further insights reveal that 89 % of Mumbaikars feel happier living there than anywhere else, while 88 % believe that people in the city seem positive about life, and 87 % feel that the city’s sense of happiness has grown recently. Mumbai’s energetic street life, thriving cultural scene, seaside pauses like Marine Drive, and endless food options such as the iconic vada pav are cited as key contributors to this upbeat mood. In a close second and third came Beijing and Shanghai, respectively, underscoring Mumbai’s standout performance in the region’s urban happiness rankings.
