China's International Flight Recovery

China's aviation sector is set to experience significant growth in international flights, aiming to reach about 80% of pre-COVID levels by the end of 2024. The Civil Aviation Administration of China announced this projection following its annual work conference. The number of international flights to and from China is expected to increase to 6,000 per week, up from 4,600 at the start of 2024 and fewer than 500 in early 2023. This increase is part of China's broader recovery in the travel sector following the end of its zero-COVID policy. The expected increase in direct flights between China and the United States, from 63 flights currently, is a key part of this growth strategy. Additionally, overall passenger trips, both domestically and internationally, are projected to rise to 690 million in 2024, a significant increase from 2023.
