If you are planning to buy a new car in Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), you will have to fix your parking space first. After high level meeting, Maharashtra transport minister Pratab Sarnaik announced on Monday that proof of parking space will soon be mandatory for car registration in MMR. This move aims to ease Mumbai Metropolitan Region parking crisis.
Pratap Sarnaik further states that, “We are looking to construct parking spaces. Development rules should be followed, and developers must provide parking with flats. We will not register new vehicles if the buyer doesn’t have a certificate of parking space allotment from the concerned civic body”.
Sarnaik also shared updates on the state’s ambitious plans for a pod taxi network. A presentation on the pod taxi project was made to the Transport Minister. Sarnaik had visited Vadodara which is set to host the world’s first commercially ready suspended pod-car transport system. The Maharashtra Government is planning similar systems in Mira-Bhayandar and the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) with the goal of enhancing connectivity within the city.
