In the latest turn of events, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued an advisory urging all driving licence holders to verify and update their registered mobile numbers to ensure they are active and accurate. The ministry cautioned that outdated or inactive contact details may cause delays in licence renewals or, in some cases, temporary suspension of licences.
According to the ministry, all communication regarding challans, penalties, and other licence-related information is sent via the registered mobile number. Incorrect or inactive numbers may result in missed notifications, leading to administrative delays or compliance issues.
To simplify the process, MoRTH has streamlined mobile number updates through the official Parivahan portal and state transport department websites. Users can verify their details and authenticate changes via a one-time password (OTP).
1. Visit parivahan.gov.in or your state transport department’s website.
2. Navigate to “Update Mobile Number” under Driving Licence Services.
3. Verify your details by entering the OTP sent to your registered number.
4. Save the confirmation for future reference.
