Tesla's highly anticipated India entry is planned for July 15th, 2025, with a launch event at Mumbai's Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). CEO Elon Musk is expected to attend this milestone occasion, which may also feature Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting the event's national importance.
The electric car maker will launch with the Model Y, brought from Tesla's Berlin plant to meet India's right-hand drive standards. Priced at approximately Rs. 70 lakhs (ex-showroom), the Model Y will serve as Tesla's top model, addressing early EV users in India's luxury market.
Tesla's first Indian store at BKC will provide customers direct access to experience the company's electric cars and technology. While originally focusing on imports, Tesla may seek local manufacturing as India finalises its EV policy, giving benefits for domestic production.
The event could also mark Starlink's official India start, following legal approval from IN-SPACe. Starlink will provide high-speed internet access to underdeveloped areas, possibly bridging India's digital gap through its low Earth orbit satellite fleet.
