India has expanded its Unified Payments Interface (UPI) to the historic Galeries Lafayette in Paris, marking another significant step in its global journey. Launched by Indian Ambassador to France Jawed Ashraf on July 3, 2024, this initiative follows the successful introduction of UPI at the Eiffel Tower earlier this year. The launch aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of globalizing UPI, originally launched in Singapore in 2018. Nicolas Houze, CEO of Galeries Lafayette, and Alain Lacour, Chairman of Lyra Group, attended the event. This move comes just ahead of the Paris Olympics starting on July 26, 2024, which is expected to attract numerous Indian visitors. UPI's global expansion aims to facilitate seamless cross-border digital payments and remittances, underscoring its role as a quick, safe, and efficient payment system.
