Hawaii Volcanoes National Park gears up for a substantial construction endeavor to repair seismic damage and enhance infrastructure, including realigning Crater Rim Drive. The 600-day first phase will lead to temporary closures, entrance delays, and reduced parking, with potential disruptions due to summit eruptions. Superintendent Rhonda Loh acknowledges the community's patience during this crucial phase. The project will use half of the UÄ“kahuna parking lot as a staging area, limiting access for certain vehicles. Additionally, KÄ«lauea Military Camp and the gravel overflow parking lot at the KÄ«lauea Visitor Center will be impacted. Following this, the park plans to rehabilitate the KÄ«lauea Visitor Center in phase two, starting as early as this fall.
