The recent Operation Sindoor has underscored a pressing vulnerability in India’s digital defense infrastructure. Cybersecurity expert Dharshan Shanthamurthy, CEO of SISA, highlighted that only about 10% of cybersecurity products used by Indian enterprises are domestically developed. This heavy reliance on foreign tools leaves critical sectors, particularly banking and financial services, exposed to potential threats, especially during geopolitical tensions. Shanthamurthy emphasized that in conflicts against technologically advanced adversaries, the risk of technology denial or compromised updates could cripple India’s digital ecosystems. He advocates for a strategic shift towards self-reliance in cybersecurity, urging increased investment in indigenous solutions to safeguard national interests.
