CyberSeek, a collaboration between NIST’s NICE program, CompTIA, and Lightcast, reveals a significant gap in the U.S. cybersecurity job market, needing 225,200 more professionals to fill 1.2 million positions. From May 2023 to April 2024, nearly 470,000 cybersecurity job postings were recorded, with high demand for roles like network engineers and cybersecurity analysts. While tech hiring declined by 37% during this period, cybersecurity job postings decreased by only 29%, indicating greater resilience in this sector. Globally, ISC2 reported a workforce gap of nearly 4 million, including over 500,000 in the U.S. To address this shortage, NIST announced $3.6 million in grants for training programs across 15 states, aiming to bolster the future cybersecurity workforce.
