What is Childhood Developmental Disorder?

Delays or interruptions in the maturation of age-appropriate thought, conduct, social skills, or emotional control are the hallmarks of many childhood developmental issues. A child's usual ways of perceiving, reacting, or responding shift in a way that's upsetting or detrimental to his/her day-to-day functioning. This adversely impacts their capacity to be happy in their homes and classrooms and negatively affects their interaction with peers and others around them.

For instance, childhood development disorders can lead to mobility problems, learning and speech issues, or a lack of social skills. What makes them even more concerning is that most of them can last a lifetime. A child's entire life can get immensely challenging if he/she suffers from a developmental disorder.

Causes of Childhood Developmental Disorder

While most developmental disorders occur before birth, some can start soon after delivery due to trauma, injury, or infection. Some causes of these disorders include heredity, complications during delivery, pre-natal exposure to substances such as alcohol and smoking, preterm birth etc.

Symptoms of Childhood Developmental Disorder

Some of the symptoms experienced are anxiety, depression, mood swings, difficulty in sleeping, aggressive behaviour, and problems in paying attention.

Childhood is a carefree and happy phase of life, however, some children might need medical help to live a simple and healthy life. The reasons could be – a disorder, congenital defect, birth trauma – or others. Having health insurance that covers such treatments can be a relief for you and ensure your child’s well-being too.
