5 Resolution That Your Car Needs in 2022

As the new year sets on all of us, like every year, we start looking back at the year that was, and start planning for the year ahead. A significant majority of us create our own set of resolutions. These could be related to our health, adopting a new skill or kicking away a bad habit, or a resolution related to our finances. While we ponder and evaluate several things, people, and events associated with us, we often neglect a resolution related to an object that is very close to us - our car. Our daily-used car is a very important element in our lives which is our companion on a daily basis. It thus becomes critical for us to ensure that we take care of it and maintain it in a proper condition. To do this, we will be looking at 5 new year resolutions for your car in 2022.

1. Checking and Changing Your Engine Oil:

One of the most critical aspects of maintaining your car is to regularly check your lubricant oil. Unchanged lubricant oil for too long can severely damage your engine. A good habit to adopt in 2022, would be checking your oil once every 30 days. Depending on your car, you should ideally change your engine oil every 10,000 km. Here’s how you can check and change your engine oil:

● Switch off your car’s engine and wait for 5 minutes, while you ensure that your car is parked on a plain level surface.

● Search for your car’s oil dipstick by opening the hood of your car. It will be marked by the words “oil” or will display an icon similar to an oil can.

● Pull the dipstick out and clean it with a paper towel or rag or and put it back in.

● Remove the dipstick back to its original position and check it while you ensure that you do not turn it upside down. You will be able to see two markers close to the bottom of the dipstick. If the oily part finishes at the lower to the bottom marker, you must change your oil. If you find that the oil’s level is in the middle of the 2 markers, your oil is good to be used and you are not required to immediately change your oil.

2. Learn How to Change a Tire:

As a car owner, you might have faced the need to change your tire. Usually one asks a mechanic or a tire puncture person to change it. However, it is important for you to know how to change a tire yourself. This will liberate you from your dependence on anyone else. The steps below will help you change your tire conveniently:

● Ensure that your car is parked in a safe zone and on a flat surface.

● Begin with removing the hubcap and getting out the spare tire.

● Next, loosen the lug nuts with a lug wrench.

● Lift the jack and ensure its secure contact with the frame of the car.

● Gradually, rotate the jack so that the wheel is above the ground and you are easily able to remove the tire.

● Using the lug wrench, carefully detach the lug nuts.

● Next, take off the flat tire and put it properly on the ground.

● Align the spare tire with the help of the wheel studs and place the lug nuts to their original position with your hand. Once you are not able to turn the bolts or nuts or any more, lower the jack so that the wheel is on the ground.

● Complete the tightening of the lug nuts with your wrench with the help of the star pattern.

● Remember that a spare tire is just a temporary solution and should not be driven at high speeds. Ensure that your tire is repaired or replaced at the earliest.

3. Drive Safely:

A resolution for 2022 must be to drive safely. This includes not texting following the speed limit and other traffic regulations. Texting and driving is a habit that needs to be ridden off. Please be vigilant while driving for the safety of yourself and others.

4. Learn How to Jump-start a Car:

Every car owner must know the art of jump-starting a dead battery. Despite it being an easy task, not many know how to do it and are dependent on others for it. While you are learning the technique please ensure that you are careful of the wires and do not electrocute yourself.

5. Check Fluids and Follow Maintenance Schedule:

For the proper functioning of your vehicle, ensure that you are regularly checking the various fluids used in your car and do not forget to follow a maintenance schedule. This also includes making sure that you have all your documentation with you. A major document is your car insurance policy. One of the best car insurance is provided by HDFC ERGO. They offer coverage against several incidents including accidents and thefts.

Conclusion:

Every new year brings with it new learnings and new avenues. Let 2022 be the year where you learn new skills to ensure that your car runs smoothly. Additionally, make it a part of your annual resolution to drive safely, maintain your car, check fluids and oils, and o jump-start a car.
