● Started as Mahindra & Mohammed:

The company was established in 1945 by Jagdish Chandra Mahindra, his brother Kailash Chandra Mahindra and partner Ghulam Mohammed with headquarters in Mumbai. The current chairman Anand Mahindra is the grandson of J C Mahindra. Initially the company was named Mahindra & Mohammed (M&M), which was later changed to Mahindra & Mahindra when Ghulam Mohammed left for Pakistan to join politics.

● Originally Founded as a Steel Trading Company:

The name Mahindra has been associated with automobiles but it wasn’t an automobile company originally. The company was founded as a steel trading company in 1945 in association with UK suppliers. Presently, the company is involved in a range of services starting from automobile manufacturing, selling, and marketing to Mahindra Insurance broking.

● World’s Largest Tractor Company by Volume:

Mahindra USA (MUSA) was declared the world’s largest tractor company by volume. It is now merged with the parent company. The company not just tops the list by volume but also offers the best in class quality. The company has been manufacturing the best quality tractors for the last 30 years and has a presence in 40 countries. Mahindra tractors are made for all types of terrains. MUSA is the only tractor brand to receive Deming Award and the Japanese Quality Medal which are the highest awards for total quality management.

● Introduced India’s First SUVs:

In order to attract urban buyers in the passenger vehicle segment, Mahindra & Mahindra launched Bolero, India’s highest-selling UV in 2000. Bolero was the highest selling UV for 10 consecutive years.

2 years later in 2002, the company launched India’s first SUV Scorpio which transformed the not so appealing UV into an iconic SUV. Bolero generated maximum volumes while Scorpio generated maximum brand value. Both won many awards and still continue to attract buyers.

● First to Launch Common Rail Diesel Engine (CRDe):

Mahindra & Mahindra was the first Indian automobile company to launch CRDe in its best-selling SUV Scorpio in 2005. CRDe made the SUV fuel-efficient and more drivable.

● Mahindra Electric First to cross 170 million KMs travel by EV Fleet:

Mahindra Electric was previously known as Reva Electric Car company which designed India’s first electric car REVA. Mahindra & Mahindra acquired REVA in 2010. Since then, the company has launched electric vehicles in different segments and has become the first Indian car manufacturer to market electric vehicles. Its EV fleet is the first to travel more than 170 million kms thus saving tonnes of CO2 emissions.

● Fastest All-Electric Luxury HyperCar:

Mahindra acquired an Italian automobile design company Automobili Pininfarina in 2015. Automobili Pininfarina is known for brands like Ferrari, Rolls-Royce, Maserati, etc. The luxury vehicle manufacturer based in Germany announced Battista an electric hypercar in 2019. The Mahindra-owned company confirms that Battista is going to be the fastest pure-electric hypercar.

● Mahindra Racing is the only Indian Racing Team in Formula E Series:

ABB FIA Formula E World Championship is the world’s first all-electric street racing championship. Mahindra Racing is the only Indian team out of 11 founding teams, to participate in the racing championship. The team registered victory in Berlin E-Prix in 2017. The team was first to receive the FIA Environmental Accreditation Three-Star rating.

● Mahindra Thar declared Car of the Year at Autocar Awards 2021:

Mahindra Thar, which is considered one of the safest off-roaders, was declared ‘Car of the Year’ in AutoCar Awards 2021. The new generation Mahindra Thar has set benchmarks since its launch. It is the most affordable and glamorous vehicle in the category.

● Skilled 500,000 youth and Created 100,000 Jobs:

Mahindra Group, in its 75Th Year, has skilled 500,000 youth and created 100,000 jobs through its skilling initiatives under CSR over a period of 15 years. These initiatives include Mahindra Pride Schools, SMART Plus, SMART Academy, and Government of India’s Skill India Mission Surya Mitra and aims to skill 500,000 youth more in the coming 5 years.

● Recognitions:

The company was ranked no. 17th in the list of ‘100 Most Sustainably Managed Companies in the World’ by The Wall Street Journal. This is the highest-ranking for an automobile company as well as for an Indian company. It was ranked 14 in Business Today’s Coolest Workplaces in India survey 2021. It is the only Indian company to score a double-A rating in global climate and water stewardship by global environmental non-profit, carbon disclosure project
