5 Things We Expect from the Upcoming 5-Door Mahindra Thar

Upcoming 5-door Mahindra Thar

The Mahindra Thar has been nothing sort of a success story for the Indian Manufacturer. Mahindra has received unprecedented demand for the handsome looking off-roader. With more than 50,000 bookings, the waiting period for some of the models is quite long. In fact, you might have to wait for the later part of the year to get your hands on a Thar. Along with Mahindra insurance, you can have complete peace of mind while owning the all-new 5 door Thar.

The new Thar is built on an entirely new platform along with two brand new engine options. However, it still retains the 3 door styling that many are in love with. Yet, there is a good amount of demand for a more conventional 5 door Mahindra Thar. That is a lot more practical and would help Mahindra get a few more customers on board.

Keeping all this in mind, Mahindra has given a green flag to the 5 doors of Mahindra Thar. The vehicle is already under testing and should be available for you to buy in 2023.

There are the top 5 things we expect from the upcoming 5 door Mahindra Thar

1. Exterior Style

Mahindra will not go out of its way to make the 5 door Thar look different from its 3 Door version and it is a good thing. The 3 Door Thar is already a good looking car. Mahindra will most likely build on it. Thus, the design language will remain more or less the same as the current version.

However, the 5 door version will have a longer wheelbase and will be bigger than the current version. We expect a lot of elements to be carried forward to the new car. To start with, the 5 door version would most likely get round headlamps along with rectangular tail lamps.

We expect the 5 door version to continue with the muscular bonnet and a tailgate that opens sideways. It would most likely house a spare wheel on the tailgate as well. However, no one expects Mahindra to launch the new car with a convertible roof top like it is for the current one.

2. Equipment List

We expect Mahindra to pack the 5 door Thar to the brim with comfort features to enhance the ownership experience. To start with, the 7-inch infotainment system would be carried forward, that supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The car is also expected to have cruise control to make those long highway trips effortless. Along with automatic climate control, to ensure you don’t have to fiddle around with the temperature on the air conditioning.

As is the case with a lot of modern cars, it is expected to come with the connected technology of BlueSense App Connectivity.

On the safety front, the new car would mostly offer ABS with EBD, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, Electronic Stability Control, dual front airbags, ISOFIX mounts for child seats and so on.

The current version of Thar gets the option of removable doors along with a washable interior, with drain plugs to get rid of the wastewater. It also has a hard top that you can remove whenever you want to. We are not sure if the 5 door version will carry forward these features.

3. Interior Design

We do not expect a lot of changes when it comes to the interior design of the new car. It will almost entirely carry forward the interiors of the current 3 door version. However, what we do expect is a much more spacious cabin. Since the new car will be longer in wheelbase, you can expect a cabin that is spacious enough to comfortably fit 5 adults.

And a lot of the space will mostly be pointed towards the back of the car or the second row. The second row of the car might get a bench seat that will be comfortable for three adults. However, we are not sure if the new car would house the third row or not. We will have to wait for Mahindra to reveal some more details.

4. Engine Options

The two new engine options on the 3 door variant have been quite successful. Thus, the new car will certainly use the same combinations, albeit in a different state of tune maybe. The current car offers a 2Litre turbo petrol engine along with a 2.2 Litre diesel mill.

The 2-litre turbo petrol makes about 150 Bhp and has a maximum torque of 300 nm at 1250-3000 rpm. Mahindra has christened the engine as mStallion 150 TGDi.

The 2.2-litre diesel engine makes about 130 Bhp and has a maximum torque output of 300 nm at 1600-2800 rpm. The engine is named as mHawk 130.

You can have both engines with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic gearbox i.e. the torque converter. Mahindra will almost certainly provide a 4X4 system as a standard option along with a low-ratio gear transfer case for all your off-roading needs.

5. Expected Launch Date

Mahindra will launch the all-new 5 door Thar in the Indian market in 2023. The car will lock its horns with the Force Ghukha 5 door version. The Force Gurkha 5 door version is expected for a late 2022 launch.

Nevertheless, it will be a juicy comparison and battle between the off-roaders to look forward to. With the 5 Door Thar, Mahindra is expecting to venture into yet another niche market of lifestyle segment that is also family-oriented. A lot like the legendary Jeep Wrangler, although with a much smaller price tag.

Mahindra has done a brilliant job at updating the new Thar. It has retained the silhouette that everyone has always been in love with. While adding a lot of retro-modern features. Gone are entirely functional interiors of the car. Once you step into the new Thar, you will feel at home with all the comfort and modern features.

The new infotainment system ensures that you enjoy your favourite tracks while also having the navigation system in place. All the while, Mahindra has ensured that the new Thar has the required structural strength. It has received a 4 Star when it comes to Global NCAP ratings. The roll cage and other safety features give you the confidence to take your Thar to unchartered territories.

For added peace of mind, you can opt to buy Mahindra insurance along with your next Thar. When you buy Mahindra insurance for your new Thar, it becomes much easier for any sort of claim. Along with a few added features.
