The Maharashtra Housing Policy 2025 is a comprehensive state-wide plan that aims to create a total of 35 lakh affordable houses available by 2030. This policy mainly targets individuals belonging to the Low Income Groups (LIG) and Economically Weaker Sections (EWS).
The policy is a well-thought-out plan that envisions creating 35 lakh homes, all while tackling the state-wise challenges of slum rehabilitation, affordable housing, rental housing and planned state-wise urban growth. This ambitious policy puts a strong message into the limelight that housing is a right and not a luxury. It promotes the “Majhe Ghar, Majha Adhikar” (My Home, My Right) initiative. The project aims to achieve its target by 2030, all while pushing measures and initiatives like self-development and rent-to-own models, redevelopment of old housing, chawls and slums, promotion of rental housing to accommodate urban and migrant workers, creation of housing near industrial zones in support of “Walk to Work”, and utilisation of sustainable construction and green technologies among other things.
Market leaders in the real estate sector have given this policy a warm welcome. The director of Dosti Realty, Anuj Goradia, has said that this initiative is a win-win situation, which will create both affordable housing and plenty of employment opportunities in the state.
