The Goa government has almost reached their goal of providing affordable housing for its eligible beneficiaries. Out of the original target of 254 housing units under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), the construction of a total of 250 homes has finished.
Under this enterprising scheme, the government has tried to offer affordable living solutions to low to moderate-income households across the state of Goa as well as many other states in India. The PMAY project in Goa aimed for the construction of 254 total housing units for qualified beneficiaries. The director of DRDA and nodal officer in charge of this scheme, P K Shirodkar, has reported that 250 out of the targeted 254 affordable housing units under PMAY have been meticulously constructed. Pramod Sawant, the CM of Goa, has led this project in the state and has spent a total of INR 3.4 crore till date.
The funding for this scheme is shared between the Centre and the state, where the Government of India funds 60% of the cost, and the remaining 40% is handled by the local state government. As the cost of construction of houses in Goa is higher compared to other Indian states, the official has requested a higher disbursement of funds.
