The Health Ministry has issued new, stricter warnings to smokers to keep them away from their vices. The new warning text will read, “SMOKING CAUSES PAINFUL DEATH” and appear in white font on a red background. The text will also include the helpline number: QUIT TODAY. CALL 1800-11-2356. Along with the textual messages the packaging will also have two graphic images of people suffering from tobacco consumption. These graphics have been approved by the authorities and will stay in the packages for a period of 12 months. This information was made public in a notification dated December 2, by the ministry.
The graphics and textual messages would appear in the packaging of smoking and smokeless products. The message “SMOKING CAUSES PAINFUL DEATH” will appear in white font on a red background. The text: QUIT TODAY CALL 1800-11-2356 shall appear in white font on a black background.
