The latest World Malaria Report 2024, released by WHO, highlights India’s progress in eradicating malaria pointing a significant reduction in malaria-related cases and deaths from 2015-2023. The report further highlights India’s exit from high burden to high impact group in 2024. This is a significant achievement for India as it signifies a turning point in India’s fight against malaria.
The report further states that from 2015 to 2023 many states have transitioned from high burden group to lower or zero-burden category. In 2015, ten states and union territories were categorised as high burden, where as now only two state remain in the said category. With systematic approach and eradication plans the government is optimistic in reducing the number of cases further by 2027 and reaching a zero ingenious count in the future.
