In the Phase 3 trial study results presented at the American Heart Association’s Scientific Sessions, the positive impact of the investigational drug, Enlicitide, on cholesterol reduction was discussed. Approximately 2,900 adults (with an average age of 63 years) participated in this study. They were divided into two groups.
The participants had cardiovascular issues and had shown elevated cholesterol levels despite consuming statins for 30 days or more consecutively.
While one group consumed the experimental pill, Enlicitide, daily along with their regular lifestyle habits and statin medications, the other group was given a placebo in place of Enlicitide.
After 24 weeks, the cholesterol levels of both groups were analysed. The group that consumed Enlicitide daily showed a 60% overall reduction in the LDL cholesterol levels and a 53% overall reduction in other bad cholesterol levels compared to the group that was given a placebo. These results showed that people with chronic high cholesterol issues and who were prone to cardiovascular problems could not depend on statins alone for their cholesterol treatments.
The study also examined the adverse side effects of the drug. However, the side effects of both groups were almost similar, indicating that Enlicitide didn’t carry any serious side effects.
