Ingredients required for Putharo

• Rice Flour: 1 cup

• Jaggery: 1/2 cup (or more, depending on sweetness preference)

• Water: 1/2 cup

• Coconut (grated): 2 TBSP

• Cardamom Powder: 1/2 TSP (optional, for extra flavour)

• Cooking Oil or Ghee: For greasing

• A pinch of salt

Steps to Make Putharo

1. Start by heating jaggery and water in a small pan over medium heat. Stir it to make a syrup, then set it aside to cool.

2. Now, take a large mixing bowl and add rice flour. Also, add a pinch of salt. Now, you have to add the jaggery syrup. Keep on mixing it to avoid making any lumps. Add the grated coconut and cardamom powder to the dough and mix well. The coconut will add texture, while the cardamom will bring a pleasant aroma and taste.

3. Grease your hands with oil or ghee. You have to take small portions of the dough to make their balls. Also, press them in your palms to make a pressed-cake-like formation.

4. Now, you have to set your steamer. You can also use a large pot with a steaming rack. Place the Putharo cakes on the rack and steam them for 15-20 minutes or until they turn firm. You can check by gently pressing the centre of the Putharo to see if it holds its shape.

5. Your dish is ready to serve. When you remove the cakes from the steamer, let them cool slightly.

Conclusion
