Jolpan recipe is more than just cooking—it’s sharing a piece of tradition with your little one. Read on to learn how to make kid-friendly Jolpan at home.
• Poha or flattened rice – 2 cups
• Curd – 1 cup
• Jaggery – ½ cup (grated or powdered)
• Almonds – 1 tsp (chopped finely)
1. Pour hot water into a bowl and add the poha. Let it soak for a few minutes. In about 2 minutes, you’ll notice the poha softening nicely.
2. Drain the water and gently squeeze out any extra moisture from the poha using your hands.
3. In a bowl, mix the moisture-free poha, curd, and jaggery. Serve immediately, garnished with chopped almonds.
• Instead of poha, you can use other traditional Assamese rice varieties. Some of these varieties don’t require cooking and soften immediately when soaked in hot water.
• If you don’t like the slightly sour taste of curd, try milk instead. It lends a unique flavour.
• If you don’t have jaggery, use sugar instead. But remember, it is always best to avoid white sugar and choose healthier alternatives.
• You can also replace the flattened rice with puffed rice (called murmura in Hindi).
One of the significant highlights of Jolpan is its simplicity of preparation—you don’t even need a stove! It is also very healthy, especially if you avoid using white sugar. You can experiment with different rice varieties each time you make it to discover the unique flavours of Assam. As you focus on your family’s health with nourishing meals like Jolpan, consider investing in a health insurance policy that safeguards your family from unexpected medical risks, ensuring you’re prepared for the future.
