
Tomato Rasam Recipe for Children
Tomato Rasam is an authentic South Indian dish prepared using tomatoes and a few warming spices. • Chopped tomatoes: 2
• Peppercorns: 1/4th tsp
• Cumin seeds: 1/4th tsp
• Turmeric powder:1/4th tsp
• Garlic cloves: 6
• Mustard seeds: ½ tsp
• Tulsi/holy basil leaves: 2
• A pinch of hing/asafoetida
• A pinch of ajwain/carom seeds
• Salt to taste
• Oil as required
1. Wash the tomatoes and the basil leaves thoroughly.
2. Add tomatoes, basil leaves, ajwain, garlic cloves, cumin seeds, and peppercorns to a blender jar and blend to a smooth paste.
3. Heat oil in a skillet, add the mustard seeds and let them splutter.
4. Next, add the smooth paste and sauté for 2 minutes on a low flame.
5. Add water to the paste and mix thoroughly. Bring the mixture to a boil.
6. Add the turmeric powder, salt, and a pinch of hing.
7. Cook the spicy mixture until the raw smell is gone.
8. Tomato Rasam is ready. Serve with steamed rice.
