Splashing in the rain might seem fun but it could also expose you to the risk of developing a foot infection. Here, we will delve into the causes of foot infections, various forms of these ailments, and how you can incorporate simple steps to maintain foot hygiene during the monsoon. Read on to know more.

Causes

Food infection in the rainy season is quite common and can occur due to several underlying causes:

1. Increased humidity during the monsoon creates a favourable environment for fungal growth, such as Athlete’s foot (tinea pedis) and fungal nail infections (onychomycosis).

2. Prolonged exposure to dirty and damp conditions can lead to bacterial infections, such as bacterial folliculitis or cellulitis. The risk increases especially if there are cuts or abrasions on the skin.

3. Keeping poor foot hygiene for extended periods or wearing wet shoes and socks for long time can increase the risk of infections.

4. Footwear choices like closed shoes or sandals can contribute to fungal and bacterial growth on the feet.

5. Walking barefoot outdoors during monsoon exposes the foot to contamination thereby increasing the risk of infections.
