Girls aged 15 and above who haven’t had their first period are diagnosed with primary amenorrhoea. When the menstrual cycles are disrupted due to which women don’t get their periods for more than three months, they are diagnosed with secondary amenorrhoea.

• Certain medications (antidepressants, antipsychotics, allergy medications, blood pressure medications, etc.)

Risk factors of amenorrhoea

• Family history of this condition

• Pre-existing ailments like primary ovary insufficiency, ovarian tumours, pituitary issues, kidney ailments, etc.)

• Extremely high or low body weight

• Eating disorders

• Chronic ailments

• Training rigorously (like athletes)

• Underwent certain gynaecological procedures previously (like dilation and curettage {D&C}, loop electro diathermy excision procedure {LEEP}, etc.)
