NCAP is the short for New Car Assessment Programme. Known as one of the most well-recognised agencies in the world, Global NCAP determines a vehicle’s safety rating. Global NCAP testing parameters comprise inspections of frontal & side impact protection, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), pedestrian protection as well as side impact pole protection assessment. All in all, the agency evaluates the vehicle’s crashworthiness and protection.
Listed below are some of the safety and security features that come with the Maruti Suzuki Swift:
For the safety of the driver and co-driver in case of an accident
Don't let the wheels lock during sudden braking
Reminds the driver and co-driver to not miss wearing seatbelts
This feature helps prevent the car from rolling backwards when on an incline
ESC stands for Electronic Stability Control. It maintains the vehicle’s stability when there are sudden movements
If the pre-set speed limit is crossed, an alert is sounded
Securely locks all doors
Prevents all kinds of unauthorised access
Help in attaching child seats to the car securely
It is important to explore the Maruti Swift safety rating, especially considering its widespread popularity. The rating is given in two categories, adult and child protection. Let’s check in detail.
The Swift scored a 1-star safety, where it bagged a total of 19.19 points out of 34. During the frontal offset crash test, the car’s structure was found to be unstable. It was also assessed that:
1. The driver’s and the passenger’s chest areas were at high risk of injury
2. The seatbelt pre-tensioners and load limiters were not functioning properly
3. The driver’s and the passenger’s knees showed marginal protection
In the side impact crash test, while there was good protection of the head, pelvis and abdomen, the chest protection was assessed as poor.
In the child occupant crash tests, the Swift again scored a 1-star safety, where it gathered a score of 16.68 points out of 49. The test was conducted on dummies of an 18-month and a 3-year-old, seated in forward-facing child seats on the rear seats. While there was poor chest and head protection for the 18-month, in the case of the 3-year-old, the seats could prevent forward movements and thus provided good protection to the head and chest.
As of the latest reports, Swift is the most popular Maruti Suzuki car in India.
Currently, the Brezza and the Ertiga are the safest Maruti Suzuki cars with a safety rating of 4 stars and 3 stars, respectively.
All the variants of the new Maruti Suzuki Swift come with six airbags.
Making sure that you have the safest car features is your prime responsibility as a car owner. When you use your car to drive with your loved ones, especially your children, safety should be paramount.
Even if a car has a good safety rating, having car insurance for your vehicle is necessary. It will protect yourself financially against any unfortunate incidents leading to damage to the car or third-party injuries. Car insurance will be an added safety.
It is always good to buy a comprehensive insurance policy as the scope of a standalone third-party car insurance policy is limited. Also, make sure that you renew your Maruti car insurance timely so that there is no break in the coverage.
