In a marked departure from trends in neighbouring markets, Indian travellers emphasise service excellence and human validation over cost savings and full automation, according to a recent Qlik-YouGov study. The survey found that 46 % of respondents ranked better customer service as their top priority when sharing travel data, compared with just 37 % who placed deals and discounts first. At the same time, 41 % said they trust human recommendations when making travel decisions, while only 26 % said AI holds that level of trust. This attitude is attributed to the complexity of India’s travel ecosystem, where flights, trains, apps and local transport often overlap, making dependable human support a key differentiator. The findings challenge travel platforms to design hybrid models that combine AI-driven planning with human-centred verification and transparent decision–making.
