Google Flights Reveals Day of Booking Has Little Impact on Prices

A popular travel myth, that one must book flights on a particular weekday (like Tuesday) to snag better deals, has now been debunked by Google Flights. According to data analysed across 4,000 markets, fare differences based on the day you book are negligible (about 1.3 % between cheapest and costliest days). Google instead recommends focusing on the timing before departure: about 39 days prior tends to be optimal for domestic travel, and 49-51 days ahead for international or holiday flights. For instance, for U.S. holiday travel, Google suggests booking 35 days ahead for Thanksgiving and 51 days ahead for Christmas. Though weekday booking doesn't significantly impact prices, traveling early in the week still offers modest savings (roughly 13 %) over weekend flights. Price alerts, historical pricing insights, and the option of indirect itineraries are among the tools Google highlights to help travellers find better deals.
