The word "aerobic" means "with oxygen”, and these exercises use oxygen to produce the energy your body needs. Activities, such as walking, jogging, cycling, swimming and dancing, are all examples of aerobic workouts. On the other hand, anaerobic exercise is more intense and done in short bursts. The word "anaerobic" means "without oxygen”, and during this type of exercise, the body relies on stored energy in the muscles rather than using oxygen. Examples include sprinting, heavy weightlifting and high-intensity interval training (HIIT). These exercises cannot be sustained for a long time, but are great for building strength and speed.

• Choose based on your schedule:

Anaerobic workouts tend to be shorter but more intense. This can be helpful if you don’t have much time to work out. A 20-minute high-intensity session can offer similar benefits to a 45-minute moderate aerobic session. If time is a factor, combining both types into a weekly schedule can keep things balanced and efficient.
