The second wave of Covid-19 did unprecedented damage as the virus made a comeback with virulent mutations. As the medical infrastructure proved inadequate to deal with the rising number of cases, people started running from pillar to post in search of oxygen cylinders or plasma. Many state governments enforced lockdowns to bring down the number of cases. Maharashtra, one of the worst affected states, is still being cautious and is not completely lifting the travel restrictions. The state government recently extended restrictions till June 15, while allowing certain relaxations like inter-district travels. However, those who need to travel during this period within the state will require an e-pass. Let’s discuss everything you need to know about this e-pass.
An e-pass is a mandatory travel pass issued by the police for travelling within Maharashtra in case of extreme emergency, which can be medical emergency, marriage, death, etc.
You can apply for an e-pass online by visiting https://covid19.mhpolice.in/registration or by visiting your nearest police station. If you are applying offline, carry all the necessary documents and you can take the help of the personnel at the police station in filling the e-pass form.
If you want to do it online, just follow the below steps:
The e-pass will be verified and approved or rejected by the concerned departments. Once approved, you can download the same using the token ID. The approved e-pass will contain the applicant’s details, such as name, vehicle number, number of travellers, validity and a QR code. The applicant has to carry a printed copy as well as the soft copy of the e-pass while travelling to show it at various checkpoints.
Those who need to travel within the state only for emergency reasons can apply. Those in the banking sector, export industries, security personnel, IT professionals and people working with broadcasting or cable networks will be allowed to travel with an e-pass.
However, government officials travelling for official purposes and those involved in essential services such as doctors, nurses, police, food delivery, etc., do not need e-pass for travel. They have to show their identity cards at police checkpoints.
You will need to show a valid identity proof, wedding cards or related documents for marriage, medical report of persons travelling for medical emergency, death certificate in case of death, medical fitness certificate or a document related to other emergency purposes.
Despite a decline in COVID 19 cases, the Maharashtra government has extended the ongoing lockdown till June 15 but has made certain relaxations in case of travel. If one needs to travel within the state due to some emergency like medical, death, or marriage, an e-pass is mandatory. But not everyone is eligible for the e-pass, as there has to be a valid reason for travel. So, step out only when necessary. Stay home, stay safe!
