Penghu International Fireworks Festival
Considering the Indian tourism trends, Indian tourists usually seek destinations with authenticity, exclusive opportunities, and natural beauty. Keeping all these in mind, Taiwan proves to be a perfect fit. Penghu is an extraordinary destination that maintains a perfect balance between pulse and peace.
Back in May 2002, Penghu experienced a horrifying plane crash, without a single survivor. The same year showed a major setback in the tourism sector. To save the drowning tourism sector, the Penghu County government body and certain specific private enterprises jointly organised a large-scale fireworks show. This was the very first International Fireworks show.
Since then, this has proved to be the major tourist attraction, reviving the tourism sector in a different light.
Considering last year’s trend, this festival generated a revenue of NT$3.7 billion. The Taiwan tourism department is expecting even higher revenues this year.
This is a bi-weekly festival that magically lights up the night sky in dazzling colours above the ocean, creating a magical ambience for every spectator.
This yearly celebration rejuvenates the cultural roots in a whole new light, attracting both international and domestic travellers, who witness the skies light up in awe-inspiring displays.
This marks the 23rd year of this extraordinary festival. Not only fireworks, but it now involves multiple other elements like drones, live performances of music and light shows. This year is even more special as it is the 75th anniversary of the famous “Peanuts” comics.
You can witness Snoopy series activities and exhibitions, including a Snoopy-shaped check-in gate, poster preview, and a special Snoopy and Penghu-themed drone show. They have turned the destination into a Snoopy wonderland.
Fireworks and more
Although fireworks are a major tourist highlight in the country, that is just the beginning. Taiwan has a lot more to offer, even after this fireworks show festival. The serene magic spun through the basalt formations due to ancient volcanic activities. There are several intricately designed temples guarded by stone lions, standing as examples of archaeological wonders.
The slow ferry rides help you to experience focusing on your journey more than the destination. It connects the tiny islets, aiding you in exploring the landscapes better, away from the urban hubbub.
If you are in Penghu, island hopping is a must. The striking coral reefs in Qimei to the silent but consistent fishing traditions in Jibei, every island spins a different story.
Apart from these, Penghu is an exclusive destination for geology lovers as well as natural history lovers. The sculptural, towering, and dark basalt landscapes are striking marvels.
Although night fishing is a popular outdoor activity here, several tourists combine it with the fireworks show to make it even more noteworthy. You can enjoy the show and fishing from the SUP.
