Welcome this New Year with 10 Healthy Resolutions

Welcome this New Year with 10 Healthy Resolutions

Usually, making New Year resolutions means giving up on most of them by January end! However, this time around, you need to take your resolutions a little more seriously. Why? 2020 and 2021 have shown us how devastating a pandemic can be. And for 2022 to turn out better, we must make health a priority. The good news is that, even setting and meeting simple goals can help you achieve better wellness. So, here are 10 New Year's resolutions you can make and follow to reap great benefits.

1. Prioritise sleep:

Ever woke up feeling cranky because you didn’t have a good night’s sleep? Well, sleeping well does way more than lifting your mood. It gives rest to the brain and heart. The next day, you can focus better, and your blood pressure stays normal too. Also, the next day, you feel less hungry, and that way, your weight stays in check. How about making your New Year resolution dreams come true by not staying up beyond bedtime?

2.Drink more water:

We are 60% water and drinking 8-10 glasses of water every day is a challenge for many. However, drinking enough water helps relieve constipation and reduces the risk of kidney stones. Because water can increase satiety and give a boost to the metabolic rate, it can aid in weight loss. Even mild dehydration can give you severe headaches and impair many brain functions. If Cristiano Ronaldo telling you to drink water isn’t enough motivation, there are apps now that tell you to hydrate.

3. Practice mindful eating:

This requires you to pay full attention to your experiences and control your cravings. The method has been successful in many cases to treat many conditions like eating disorders, depression, anxiety, and other food-related behaviours. This will fundamentally need you to practice some easy things like eating slowly, chewing thoroughly, eating without distraction and only until you’re full, appreciating your food, etc. Over a period, mindful eating will become more natural.

4.Quit smoking:

If you smoke, you must have read the warning sign on every cigarette packet already. So, you know that it is harmful for you, but refuse to acknowledge the same. Quitting smoking does much more than reduce your risk of being diagnosed with cancer. You are likely to gain better blood circulation, improve your senses of taste and smell, and get cleaner teeth. When you quit nicotine consumption, your body will need time to adjust and there may be side effects. However, they will only be temporary, and you will easily overcome them with self-belief and if need be, a doctor’s prescription.

5.Alcohol consumption:

Do you remember waking up with a throbbing headache because you partied a little too hard last night? Alcohol is more damaging than you think. While it may harm some of your body parts, it also easily becomes the reason behind crimes, whether you are the victim or the perpetrator. Remember that social drinking is one thing, but being an addict is another. So, try and draw that line in 2022.

6. Make an age-appropriate workout routine

Even if you believe that age is just a number, your body may not. A workout regime fit for your early 20s may not be the best one in your late 30s. Understand your body’s needs and limitations before opting for a fitness regime that fits the bill. Start easy and keep making small progresses each day, to see results.

7. Take steps to be more active:

So, you lead a super busy life and don’t get the time to work out daily. But that’s alright! There are many other ways to stay active throughout the day. Taking little steps like parking your vehicle a little far from the office or taking stairs or doing the dishes will help keep obesity and depression at bay.

8.Dedicate time to your mental health:

Unfortunately, there is a lot of social stigma associated with mental illnesses in our country. But what you need to remember is that depression and anxiety can affect anyone. Therefore, you must seek therapy when required and do everything possible to stay in the right frame of mind. That way, you can deal with different situations better. So, in 2022, create boundaries with toxic environments, pessimistic people, and anything that fuels your negative emotions.

9.Spend more time with family:

This is essential for your emotional health. Many people suffer from loneliness and a lack of sense of purpose. A family can provide both love and perspective in life. So, switch off that TV remote and play a board game with your family instead.

10.Find a primary doctor:

A family doctor is someone who is well-aware of your medical history and can advise you better. So, if a doctor has helped you get better the last time, consult them if the problem resurfaces. The same doctor can also conduct regular check-ups to see how you are doing.

Conclusion

While doing all the above will help you stay healthy, you must still prepare for eventualities. Therefore, buying a health insurance policy is a must. It will protect your finances during medical emergencies and give you the option of availing the best healthcare facilities available.
