Top 10 Things to Know about Tata Punch SUV
Why are car manufacturing companies so keen on introducing more SUVs? The simple answer is, that Indians love SUVs in any form. If the sales figures of recent years have taught us anything, it is that Indians adore SUVs and will almost certainly find space in their garage for one. Tata is banking on this SUV trend and has launched the Tata Punch SUV. Let’s find out why Tata Punch along with the Tata insurance is a compelling package.
Over the past few years, Tata Motors has done exceedingly well to bring some stylish looking cars that have a host of features as well. And it has done all of that, without compromising the safety of the passengers. Most of its recent cars have fared exceedingly well in the crash tests. Thus, any new offering from the home-grown manufacturer has a lot of keen and eager eyes.
Tata Punch is its latest offering and falls under the category of micro SUV. The micro SUV will be a challenger from Tata against the likes of M&M’s KUV100 and Maruti Ignis. And it will also rival the Citroen C3, once it is launched.
You can book a Tata Punch by paying a token amount of INR 21,000. And to do so, you can visit their website or visit a Tata Motors showroom. Since it is a brand new car, there are a lot of things to look forward to.
Here are the top 10 things that you should know before you go ahead and book a Punch
1. ALFA-ARC Platform
Tata Motors has benefitted heavily from the creation of two platforms. It allows the manufacturer to do minor tweaks and create new cars. The AFLA-ARC platform is one of them. The ALFA-ARC or Agile Light Flexible Advanced Architecture is the platform that underpins Tata Punch. Tata Altroz, its premium hatchback, is also based on the same platform.
2. Safety Features
The recent cars from Tata Motors have built a reputation of being safe cars and the Tata Punch is no different. The car is based on the new ALFA-ARC platform and offers a healthy ground clearance of 187 mm unladen and about 168 mm when the car is fully loaded. The car has a water wading capacity of 370 mm and comes with traction control mode. Tata Motors has introduced Brake Sway Control with the Tata Punch, which is the first offering in any Tata car. It also comes with Cornering Safety Control, dual airbags as a standard, Parametric Alarm System, along with a few other features.
3. Engine and Transmission Options
The Tata Punch will only be available with a Petrol engine, as is the case with a lot of new cars. Powering the Punch is the tried and tested 1.2 Litre Revotron engine. The engine is built on Dynpro Technology and makes 86 PS of power and a peak torque of 113 Nm. You can choose between two different transmission options, either a five-speed manual or AMT transmission. Tata Motors claims that the SUV will reach 0 to 60 kmph in just 6.5 seconds and will take 16 seconds to reach the 100 kmph mark. Should you choose the AMT transmission, you also get access to Traction-Pro, which essentially improves the driving dynamics of the car.
4. Variants
You can choose your Tata Punch from four broad variants. Tata has named the variants Pure, Adventure Persona, Accomplished and Creative. The Pure is the base model and will have features such as dual airbags, dual drive modes, an engine start-stop option, and 15-inch wheels, among other features. The Adventure Persona will have all of the above features and include central locking, power windows at the front and rear, and steering-mounted controls. The Accomplished trim will feature the above and receive a 7-inch infotainment system, voice recognition system, reversing camera, passive entry, and push-button start and stop system. The Creative trim is the top-of-the-line model and is loaded with features such as automatic climate control, iRA-connected technology, cooled glovebox, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and gear knob.
5. Colour Options
You have the option to choose from 7 different paint schemes for the Tata Punch. You can choose from Orcus White, Daytona Grey, Atomic Orange, Calypso Red, Meteor Bronze, Tornado Blue, and Tropical Mist. You can opt for dual-tone colour schemes but it is limited to the top-end Creative trim only. Tata Motors further lets you customize the SUV with Dazzle and Rhythm customization packs.

7. Drive Modes
The car comes with two drive modes, City and Eco. This enables the driver to choose a mode as per their driving mood. If you want to eke out every last kilometer from the fuel, ECO mode is for you. The City mode is for a more engaging drive.
