1. Exercise regularly

While there are certain dos and don’ts, there is no need to completely stop fitness journey as there is no better stress reliever than exercise. So from the very onset of pregnancy, keep your exercise schedule planned.

Pregnancy as a journey requires a lot of planning and informed decisions as one would need to decide what all prenatal tests to get done basis the family history of both to-be-mother and the spouse. It is better to consult the same doctor throughout this journey and if possible, making a systematic trimester wise plan can keep the pregnancy journey smooth.

3. Enrol for a prenatal class

Prenatal classes systematically prepares you for pregnancy and they are not just informative but fun as well, as you get to meet many other couples who are going through the same journey.

4. Drink lots and lots of water

While this advice is generally given to everyone, it is more important when pregnant as water is a part of the amniotic fluid that protects your baby. Low fluid intake can even lead to miscarriage and other complications. So, make sure to consume 2-3 litres of water each day.

5. Watch your diet carefully

Make sure your diet is nutritious and nourishing as that’s the only way one can take care of their unborn child. Have a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables and avoid sugar and caffeine. As a first-time pregnant woman, you need 5-6 healthy balanced meals in a day so plan these meals very carefully.

6. Prioritise your mental health

While pregnancy is the most beautiful phase of a woman’s life, it is also one of the most challenging phase as there are many hormonal and physical changes one needs to deal with. It is very normal and common for a pregnant woman to feel overwhelmed and moody sometimes. So, make sure to get 8 hours of calm and stress-free sleep everyday. If at any point you find yourself feeling depressed, consult your doctor and address the issue rather than letting it linger and manifest in ways that can harm your health.
