Why Is It Important To Link Your Aadhaar Card To Your Insurance Policy And How To Do It?

As per government regulations, policy holders are now required to link their insurance policies with their aadhar card. The rule has been happily welcomed by insurance providers as it will reduce the number of fraudulent claims and help in effective settlement of genuine claims.

How to link your Aadhar card?

First of all, if you do not have an aadhar card, get one made as soon as you can. The Aadhar and insurance linking can be done online or offline.

For online linkage

  • Before you begin the online process, keep your Aadhar card and PAN card ready. HDFC Ergo provides a smooth and quick online linking experience to its policy holders.

  • Also keep your policy number, date of birth and mobile number at hand.

  • Before the process make sure your Aadhar card is already linked to your mobile number.

  • Visit the website of your insurance provider, login with your details.

  • Fill up the form mentioning all relevant details. After you submit the form, you will get a verification message and an e-mail.

  • The verification processing may sometimes take up to 24 hours.

For offline linkage

  • Visit the nearest branch of your insurance provider with your policy number and Aadhar card.

  • Ask the agent for form and fill up the form with required details.

  • You also need to submit a self-attested copy of your Aadhar card and PAN card.

  • The process may take from 24 to 48 hours.

Benefits of linking Aadhar card

Linking your Aadhar card is not just beneficial for your insurance provider but also for you. It helps in easy and faster settlement of your claims and at the same time reduces the number of fraudulent claims.

What happens if you do not link your Aadhar card?

Since linking your Aadhar card is mandatory by government now, your insurance policy will continue only when you complete the KYC process at the time of renewal.  It is even more important in case of health insurance as your claim may not be approved unless your KYC is completed. So, it is suggested you link your aadhar card with your insurance policy as soon as possible.

The challenges faced

While it is important and even mandatory to link your Aadhar card, it is also challenging at the same time. The process though easy, may feel cumbersome to people who are unaware, especially since every insurance company has its own process to complete the procedure.

Like any other changes brought, this one is also given a lot of negative reactions. Some people think the process is unnecessary and complicated but it is expected to be accepted and appreciated in the longer run as it is for the benefit of both insurer and policy holders.
