HDFC ERGO Insurance Awareness Award Junior:

With the low penetration of General Insurance in India, HDFC ERGO took a step forward and reached out to the young minds, the future of India, to build awareness about General Insurance through the HDFC ERGO Insurance Awareness Award Junior, a Quiz contest. The idea of the Quiz is to build the awareness on insurance in the form of a challenge that would make it fun and easy for the school students to understand.

The HDFC ERGO Insurance Awareness Award Junior, a learning initiative for insurance awareness and empowerment, is an initiative to promote and spread insurance literacy as a necessary life skill. It is the first of its kind initiative taken by HDFC ERGO.

In its first edition, held in 2016, the quiz was structured in two rounds – the Semi-final elimination round (a MCQ written challenge) and the Grand Finale Quiz competition. The Quiz was held in phases; wherein the best schools in Mumbai were invited to nominate a team of three students for the preliminary rounds in the first phase. As part of this phase, Insurance Awareness workshops were conducted by HDFC ERGO representatives, explaining the concept of Insurance, at the premises of the participating schools. The students were also provided booklets on Insurance to help them understand the topic in greater detail, during the workshops.

The Grand Finale of the first edition of the HDFC ERGO Insurance Awareness Award Junior was hosted on 27th September 2016, commemorating the Foundation Day of HDFC ERGO.

With the success and overwhelming response the Quiz garnered, the Quiz was extended this year to four more cities of Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Bengaluru making it a national competition. As part of the Quiz, HDFC ERGO Insurance experts conducted townhalls in more than 160 schools and imparted basic insurance knowledge to over 33,000 students of 8th and 9th standards.

Enthused with the overwhelming response to the first ever HDFC ERGO Insurance Awareness Award Junior amongst schools in Mumbai, HDFC ERGO extended to four more cities of Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Bengaluru in 2017, making it a national competition. Insurance experts from the Company conducted townhalls in 166 schools and imparted basic insurance knowledge to over 33,000 students of 8th and 9th standards. The competition received participation from over 125 schools across the five cities.

The Quiz will venture in to more cities across the country in the coming year.
